Committee Assignments
Last week I was selected to serve on the House Committees on Small Business, House Committee on Science, Space and Technology, and House Armed Services Committee. I served on all of these last Congress, and I believe they are a perfect fit for our region. We are in a unique position because we are home to a tremendous amount of small businesses that work in fields related to defense, science and aerospace. I look forward to continuing our work in these committees to expand opportunities in our community.

Contracting and the Workforce
I am proud to announce that today I was appointed to serve as Chairman of the House Small Business Subcommittee on Contracting and the Workforce. The Subcommittee’s purpose is to assess the federal procurement system, including those programs designed specifically to enhance participation by small businesses in providing goods and services to the federal government.  I am honored for this appointment and I thank Chairman Chabot for giving me this opportunity. This Chairmanship will allow us to continue to find new ways to improve our procurement and contracting programs, which will save taxpayers money and increase opportunities for small businesses in our community.

Tele Town Hall
Last week we hosted a live telephone town hall with some members of the community. We primarily discussed current efforts to replace the Affordable Care Act with a patient-centered healthcare law that provides individuals and families with competitive choices. If we missed you, don’t worry! We will do many more of these over the course of the year, and you can always email me through my website here.

Speaking Out for Small Business
Catch my speech on the House floor about the Small Business Regulatory Flexibility Improvements Act. This legislation would reform the Regulatory Flexibility Act to protect small businesses from poorly-crafted, burdensome regulations and give them a seat at the table when it comes to federal rulemaking. The bill passed the House last as part of a larger legislative package, called the Regulatory Accountability Act.
