A Special Coffee For Vets
Last Tuesday my office attended the weekly Coffee for Vets in Lancaster, where Ronnie Baker and Juan Blanco presented Fred Barthe a wonderful book about the Coast Guard. Fred is the DAV van driver for the Antelope Valley and drives other veterans to the Sepulveda VA every week. Thank you Fred for your service in the Coast Guard and your continuing service to our veterans.

Another great STEM initiative in Santa Clarita

Tis the Season
One of my favorite things about this time of year is seeing the community come together to help those in need. For example, this weekend the University of Antelope Valley hosted its 10th Annual Caring For The Community where they fed over 2000 people. Countless other organizations are also holding events and drives to help those in need, but remember that it’s up to all of us to chip in. So whether it’s Toys For Tots, Stuff-A-Bus, or any other charitable opportunity, please spare what you can and make a difference this Christmas season.

Around the Capitol
Authorizing National Defense
This week the Senate passed the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2017, which authorizes funding for most of our country's defense operations next year. Not only is the NDAA crucial to our national security, but it also has a tremendous positive impact on the economies of the Antelope, Santa Clarita, and Simi Valleys. This year’s NDAA includes provisions that will directly benefit Edwards Air Force Base and Naval Base Ventura County, as well as the many businesses in our area that contract with the federal government. Additionally, it gives a well-deserved 2.1% pay increase for our troops. I will keep working with my colleagues on initiatives like this one so that we can provide for future generations of Americans who answer our country’s call of duty.

Holiday Mail for Our Heroes
On Wednesday I had the opportunity to participate in the American Red Cross Holiday Mail for Our Heroes program on Capitol Hill, where I got to write letters to some of our service members stationed overseas. This Christmas season, please keep these brave men and women in your hearts and prayers as they defend our country and our way of life.
Wishing our service men and women a Merry Christmas

Winning On Water
On Thursday afternoon the House passed a measure that would deliver relief for California's drought. The effort has the support of Senator Feinstein, who will be crucial in ensuring the bill passes the Senate and makes it to the President's desk. I applaud Leader McCarthy’s leadership on this important issue and Senator Feinstein’s support of this compromise. I am hopeful that we can continue our forward momentum and deliver a much-needed victory for the people and communities of our great state. Read more here
