Expanding Operations in the AV
Last week my office offered our congratulations to Jack Cole and Lance Camper on expanding their manufacturing facility in the City of Lancaster. This local company has been here in the Antelope Valley for over 50 years, and as a member of the Small Business Committee I am happy to see a great business like Lance Camper thriving and growing.

Santa Clarita Valley Chamber Installation
This weekend I had the honor of installing John Musella as the 2017 Chairman of the Board of the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce as well as the new Board of Directors. Thank you to the Chamber for all you do for the businesses of the Santa Clarita Valley!

Around the Capitol
Improving Energy
Last week I spoke on the House floor about H.R. 589, the Department of Energy Research and Innovation Act. This legislation includes a measure that I sponsored last year called the Solar Fuels Innovation Act, which would chart the path on breakthrough technology to turn sunlight into storable fuels, fundamentally changing the way we get energy and leading to entirely new economic sectors. By wisely directing our resources toward meaningful research today we can expand the useful technologies and systems fueling our solar energy economy in the district and across the country. Catch the speech here.

Working with AARP
On Tuesday I had the chance to meet with Nancy McPherson, the California State Director of AARP along with two of her colleagues in my Washington, DC office. We discussed AARP’s important work on housing initiatives and also how we can improve healthcare and social security for our Seniors.

Aerospace 101
On January 25th I had the opportunity to address a great crowd at an “Aerospace 101” lunch briefing for congressional staff. The event, which was hosted by The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), Aerospace Industries Association (AIA), and the Space Foundation, featured a panel discussion about the future of civil aviation, civil and commercial space, and national security aerospace. The takeaway: we need stable defense and NASA budgets to secure our technological lead in aerospace and keep these high-skill, high-paying jobs in the U.S.

Fighting to End Childhood Cancer
Today I was proud to introduce H. Res. 69, a bipartisan resolution that would raise awareness and support research for a form of pediatric cancer called Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma, or DIPG. This renews an effort we led last year with Janet Demeter, an Agua Dulce resident who lost her son Jack to DIPG in 2012. After his passing, Janet founded an organization called Jack’s Angels, which promotes funding for scientific research, raises public awareness, and supports children afflicted with DIPG. You can learn more about the organization and the resolution here.
