Equal Pay Day
On Tuesday I introduced the Workplace Advancement Act, which would reinforce and strengthen equal pay laws and protect employees who seek or share wage information. Equal pay for equal work is a basic American value that is in everyone’s interest, and we must improve and enforce our laws preventing workplace discrimination. Read more here.

Increasing Opportunities for Small Business
On April 5th I spoke at the 2017 Forum for SBIR/STTR Transition, an annual conference focused on highlighting the technologies and small businesses that participate in the Department of the Navy’s SBIR/STTR Transition Program. I gave a keynote speech about acquisition reform, American jobs and how small business innovation is critical to both.

Damage to the Military from a Continuing Resolution
Later on the 5th I participated in a House Armed Services Committee hearing titled "Damage to the Military from a Continuing Resolution." We learned about the dangers of delayed funding for defense operations, which jeopardizes our immediate readiness and also devastates our ability to invest in long-term modernization. Catch the whole hearing here.

Extending Choice
Last week the House passed S. 544 to eliminate the sunset of the Veterans Choice Program. This program gives our brave service members flexibility and options in their medical care and allows those that must travel long distances to VA facilities the ability to access quality care in their own communities. I'm proud to be a part of the effort to extend the initiative and I look forward to seeing the President signing this legislation into law.

Protecting Troops
On Friday I was proud to cosponsor the PRIVATE Act, introduced by Rep. Martha McSally. This bill would help address the outrageous behavior discovered in the wake of the Marines United scandal and protect military service members from nonconsensual sharing of private, intimate media by other military members. Sexual harassment and abuse should always be condemned as it is harmful for its victims, and in this case a national security concern that threatens the capabilities of our forces. I thank Representative McSally for her leadership on this issue and I am eager to solve this disgraceful problem. Read more here.
