Representative Steve Knight (CA-25) had a lot to say on Thursday about the positive impacts of the F-35 Lightning II, commonly known as the Joint Strike Fighter program.

The Congressman spoke at an event showcasing the F-35, a stealth fighter aircraft built by Lockheed Martin that will soon be operational. The event featured a cockpit demonstrator that gave attendees the opportunity to experience what it is like to pilot the aircraft. It was held at FMI, a woman-owned business located in Valencia that provides a multitude of structural parts for the F-35.

“The work being done on the F-35 right here in Valencia is a major contribution to our national defense and to our service men and women.  I’m happy to be here today to highlight the hard work and dedication of the employees of FMI and Lockheed Martin,” said Rep. Knight

In his speech, Knight explained the importance of the F-35 to the area. With 28,000 direct and indirect jobs in California tied to the program, many of which are in the Santa Clarita Valley, the region has benefitted from much needed growth in aerospace manufacturing. Additionally, Knight pointed out, the F-35 is the world’s most advanced military aircraft and will allow America to maintain its dominance in air power.

“The F-35 will ensure our superiority in an uncertain world," continued Knight. "That is why I am here supporting it today.”
