Rep. Steve Knight (CA-25) is an original co-sponsor of legislation that will promote safety and certainty for the commercial space industry.

House Resolution 2262- The Spurring Private Aerospace Competitiveness and Entrepreneurship Act of 2015, or SPACE Act, was introduced in the Science, Space and Technology Committee by Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) and passed out of the committee on Wednesday afternoon. The bill would provide stable and predictable regulatory conditions for the commercial space industry by improving safety conditions and encouraging private sector investment.

“The commercial space industry is essential to advancing our nation’s space program,” said Congressman Knight. “This bill will give businesses the regulatory certainty they need to innovate and grow.

The SPACE Act is the product of years of negotiations between Members of Congress, commercial space companies, and industry. It has the support of the Mojave Air & Space Port as well as the Commercial Space Federation, SpaceX, Virgin Galactic, and The Spaceship Company, all of which do business in California.

“I’m pleased to join my colleagues on this effort to strengthen our nation’s space policy and bring space-related jobs to our communities,” continued Knight.

The SPACE Act passed out of the Science, Space & Technology Committee 18-12. It now awaits consideration on the House floor.
