European Outlook
On Tuesday I participated in a House Armed Services Committee hearing entitled "Military Assessment of Russian Activities and Security Challenges in Europe." We heard from NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander and Commander of U.S. European Command, General Curtis Scaparrotti, about the dynamic challenges that we face in the region and how we can best address them. Watch the whole thing here.

Improving Veterans Crisis Line
On May 28th I joined my colleagues in calling on VA Administrator Shulkin to investigate and address ongoing problems with the Veterans Crisis Line program. We owe our veterans a tremendous debt, and that starts with offering quality care and service for both their physical and mental wounds. I’m proud to join my colleagues in addressing issues with the Veterans Crisis Line and I will continue to work to ensure that our veterans have access to the high-quality resources they need. Examining Small Business Development Programs
Thursday morning I held a House Small Business Committee hearing on the Small Business Administration's Entrepreneurial Development programs, which provide small businesses with strategic counseling and mentoring to start, grow, and expand their operations. We examined these efforts, their effects on small businesses, and how they could be improved. You can catch the whole hearing here

Fighting For Veterans Homes
On May 31st I led an effort to increase funding to the VA’s State Extended Care Facilities Grant Program. This initiative is a key provider of resources for the ongoing maintenance of our existing State Veterans Homes like the ones in Lancaster and Ventura, which provide our aging and disabled veterans with rehabilitative, residential, and medical care and services in a home-like environment.
