Chairman Denham In Porter Ranch
Representative Jeff Denham, Chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Railways, Pipelines and Hazardous Materials, flew across the state on March 12 to visit Porter Ranch at my request. We took a tour of the Aliso Canyon facility and discussed our efforts to pass legislation that would prevent gas leaks like the one in Porter Ranch from ever harming our communities again. Thank you Chairman Denham. More information about the visit here.

Speaking at Simi Valley High
Last week I spoke with Mr. Shrock's AP Government class at Simi Valley High School. I was very impressed by the students' knowledge and interest in government and civic engagement. Thanks to Mr. Schrock and all the students who participated.

Blue Angels Presentation
Friday’s U.S. Navy Blue Angels presentation at the Pete Knight Veterans Home was fantastic! It got me very excited to see them at the Los Angeles County Air Show, which took place this weekend.

Calling All Artists
I’m excited to announce that I am now accepting artwork submissions for the Congressional Art Competition of 2016. High School students can submit an original work of art for a chance to be selected as the 25th Congressional District’s winner. The first place winner will be provided with complimentary airfare to Washington, D.C. to see his or her art displayed in the Capitol Building—which will be featured for an entire year. Artwork must be submitted by Friday, April 24th to one of my District Offices in Antelope Valley, Simi Valley, or to the KHTS Radio Station in Santa Clarita. A winner will be selected by a panel of judges consisting of members of the art community throughout the district, and announced by May 4th.

For more information on guidelines and rules, please visit my website or call Nicole in my Santa Clarita Valley Office at (661) 255-5630.

Denouncing Genocide
Last week the House passed H. Con. Res. 75, which formally recognizes that the atrocities that ISIL is carrying out against Christians, Yezidis, and other minorities in Iraq and Syria as acts of genocide. We must call these terrible acts exactly what they are- this is an important step in defeating ISIL and the violent ideology that drives them.

Spirit of Enterprise
On Tuesday I was honored to receive the Spirit of Enterprise award from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce for working to advance policies that will help American enterprise reach its full potential. I look forward to continuing my mission to get our country's economy back on track and ensure that future generations of Americans can thrive.

Small Business Overtime
On March 16 I participated in a Small Business Committee roundtable on the effects that President Obama’s executive orders will have on small businesses that contract with the government. I was particularly interested in learning more about the disastrous consequences of his order that would radically alter federal overtime rules. This, along with 13 other executive orders, will place huge compliance costs on small businesses that will also result in cutbacks and job losses across the country. LA County Workforce Development
I had a great meeting with representatives from the Los Angeles County Workforce Development Board last week. We discussed the organization's role in revitalizing our region's economy and how the federal government can help.

NASA in Committee
Catch me in last week’s House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology Hearing speaking with NASA Administrator Charles Bolden about the need to fully fund NASA's aeronautics operations, the potential benefits of hypersonic flight, and the great impacts of the SOFIA program located at Plant 42. Video here.

Aero Bending
Really enjoyed Wednesday’s meeting with Bob Burns, President of Aero Bending in Palmdale. We discussed the challenges that his company faces as a key supplier to the F-35 program and the impacts of the program on his employees and our community.
Thanks for stopping by Bob!
