America's Role in the World
Last Tuesday I participated in a House Armed Services Committee hearing entitled ‘America's Role in the World,’ in which we examined the size and characteristics of the United States military in the context of the goals and challenges we face around the globe. You can catch the whole thing here.

Standing Up for Test Stands
On March 21 I sent a bipartisan letter to NASA Acting Administrator Lightfoot urging the agency to preserve and protect the rocket test stands at Santa Susana Field Laboratory near Simi Valley. We understand the need to complete the cleanup of toxic chemicals in the area from the many years of research and testing, and the environmental protection mission and the preservation of such an important piece of our shared history are not mutually exclusive goals. It would be a tragedy to lose these test stands and deny future generations the ability to connect with this history and humanity’s ongoing search for a better understanding of our universe. Healthcare Update
In the past two weeks my colleagues worked to build a consensus on how best to repair our flawed healthcare system and build a patient-centered system that works for the American people. We learned that it is hard to find a consensus on something that impacts more than 1/6th of our economy and the lives of almost every American. The proposed legislation took many shapes, and throughout the entire process our goal has been to be as informed as possible in order to make a decision that would benefit the people of California’s 25th Congressional District. In the end, the bill did not advance to the House floor but I am thankful for the valuable input provided by so many constituents throughout the debate. As we now move on from this discussion, my commitment continues to be to provide solutions for our community, including creating jobs in aerospace, improving treatment for veterans, and increasing opportunities for small businesses.
