September 11
September 11th marked the 14th Anniversary of one of the greatest tragedies our nation has ever seen. I spent the day reflecting on the lives we lost on September 11, 2001 and on the brave men and women who have sacrificed everything to protect our country and values. My staff attended events around the community honoring our fallen, including the Patriot Day Event in Richard Rioux Park, the 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony at the AV Mall, and the Patriots Day Assembly at Foster James Elementary School in Santa Clarita.

Simi Valley Days Parade
On Saturday, Lily and I had a great time at the Simi Valley Days Fair & Music Festival. We participated in the parade then spent the day chatting with members of the community and enjoying the festivities.

Military Academy Information Day
Thank you to everyone who made it to our Military Academy Information Day at the College of the Canyons last weekend. Protecting Our Most Vulnerable
Last week the House passed H.R. 3504, the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, of which I am a proud original co-sponsor. This legislation would protect an incredibly vulnerable and overlooked population: survivors of abortions. H.R. 3504 would impose criminal penalties on health care practitioners who fail to provide an infant who has survived an abortion with the same care they would provide other infants of the same gestational age.

Commissary Letter
As the son of an Air Force Test Pilot and a Veteran of the US Army, I can say firsthand that commissaries are a vital part of life for military families. That is why last week I signed a letter to the Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee urging him to resist a policy change that would force commissary customers to pay for overseas shipping for fresh fruits and vegetables. This would harm service members and their families by driving prices up. Click here to read the full letter.

Tele Town Hall
On Thursday I hosted a Telephone Town Hall with constituents from around the Antelope, Santa Clarita and Simi Valleys. We discussed a wide range of issues, from immigration policy to my office’s role in helping seniors navigate the Social Security Administration. Don't worry if you missed the call, I will host another in the near future!

Prepping for the Pope
This week, Congress will host Pope Francis and I will be privileged to be in his presence. One can only fathom his words which will be spoken to the joint gathering of Congress, but it is sure to be historic.
