No Hero Left Untreated
On Tuesday the House passed HR 5600, the No Hero Left Untreated Act, which I introduced earlier this year. This legislation would help our veterans recover from post-traumatic stress (PTS), traumatic brain injury (TBI), military sexual trauma (MST), chronic pain, and opiate addiction. I thank my colleagues for supporting this measure and I look forward to continuing to work on this important effort. More information here.

Taking Care of Small Business
Last week the House also passed the Conference Report for the National Defense Authorization Act for FY 2017, which includes a measure I introduced this year called the Mentor-Protégé Cooperation Reform Act. Our communities are in the unique position of having a huge presence of defense contracting companies as well as a large number of small businesses that are seeking government contacts. This bill would help bridge the gap between those two groups so that our region’s economy can thrive. Read more here.

Reagan National Defense Forum
I spent my weekend at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, where I attended Reagan National Defense Forum. There I joined many of my colleagues from the House Armed Services Committee and other leaders in the defense community to discuss the health and future of the U.S. military. It was an honor to participate, and I am already looking forward to next year’s Forum.
