KNIGHT’S OFFICE HELPING WITH PORTER RANCH RELOCATION
RESIDENTS URGED TO CONTACT CONGRESSMAN’S OFFICE FOR ASSISTANCE ON RELOCATION AND REIMBURSEMENT
(PORTER RANCH, CA) –Upon Thursday’s announcement that the Porter Ranch gas leak was permanently sealed, Representative Steve Knight (CA-25) strongly encouraged members of the affected communities to contact his office for information and aid in relocating back into their homes.

The leak, which began at the Aliso Canyon natural gas storage facility last October, was declared by state officials to be completely contained earlier this week. While the announcement comes as a relief for residents, Rep. Knight says the community now faces new challenges that he is eager to help with. For example, those who relocated to temporary housing may now return to their homes at the expense of SoCalGas, but they must do so by the end of next week in order to be eligible for reimbursements.

“Now that we have reached a resolution on the leak itself, it is time to begin the process of recovery and rebuilding,” said Rep. Knight. “My staff and I stand ready to assist in this effort.”

Over the course of the leak, Rep. Knight’s office assisted numerous residents who were having trouble accessing reliable information or getting their reimbursements from the gas company. He expects this trend to continue even now that the leak has stopped, due to the potential complexity of the condensed relocation process. Rep. Knight is also working to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future, which is why he introduced legislation this past January to require the Secretary of Transportation to issue adequate safety standards for underground natural gas storage facilities.

“My priorities in Porter Ranch have been and will continue to be providing residents with up to date information as well as assistance in returning home and reimbursements,” said Rep. Knight. “Stopping the leak is just the first step, and now it is time to prevent another incident from happening in our communities ever again.”

Residents experiencing difficulties seeking reimbursements or in need of assistance returning home from SoCalGas may call Rep. Knight’s Santa Clarita office at (661) 255-5630 or his Washington, D.C. office at (202) 225-1956. Community members may also email the office at https://knight.house.gov/contact/email. Additionally, Rep. Knight has a page on his website with information and updates, which can be found here: https://knight.house.gov/aliso-canyon-gas-leak-update.
